Commissioner Fraasch has published her proposal for a comprehensive Rec bond, and it will be presented at the Commission's Discussion Session on August 14. You can review the proposal in advance here. I appreciate Commissioner Fraasch sharing this information with everyone in advance.
I support a lot of what is in the proposal, but I think it is important for every to review it and offer their own conclusions. I will offer a more detailed summary with my thoughts at a later date.
While I commend Kelly for her due diligence and her attempt to address all of the comunity needs, I find it hard to believe that she will receive the needed backing to get this approved.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this Dave. I look forward to hearing more about this plan.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave for sharing. I did walk up to Robb Hollow with Kelly weeks ago and it opened my eyes. The upper area is really a large space. Better than Bird Park was when plans began to add a field there and much better than the area by Baldwin. I was there with a couple of others and we all found this to be a positive.
ReplyDelete8:59 "I find it hard to believe that she will receive the needed backing to get this approved." I think we ought to take a strong look and see that this might be a really good offer. Kelly has been open that she is not supporting turf, but she is offering what we all wanted more field space. If I understand correctly, she is offering two field spaces. If we hold off and don't support this (or a good portion) we might be waiting another 4 years.
Remember, Kluck won't support a bond and we need 4.
I'm not against her plan. I just don't think it will get approved. I wonder how long it will be before the Robb Hollow folks start complaining about the plan.
ReplyDeleteI'd think the Robb Hollow folks would like something other than the grinder in their back yards. My educated guess is that they will absolutely line up to support this- just as the Cedar Blvd people lined up to oppose turf. This has a far better chance of passing than anything else so far. But you are right, if this doesn't go through, field sports will be waiting at least another four years. No commission in memory has spent as much time on recreation and field issues as this one has in the last 8 months. Dave, I hope you see this as a real opportunity to improve field sports and field access in Mt. Lebanon. That has been your goal all along. While the plan does address other needed recreation upgrades, the fields aspect should be quite satisfying for you and others that have been disappointed by our current field situation. If I recall, the plan also calls (or Kelly has said in meetings) for also addressing the ongoing maintenance issues at ALL fields.
ReplyDeleteI guess having a plan (Fraasch or the YSA) is better than having no plan at all (Kluck).
ReplyDelete10:26, have you polled the folks at the lower end of Cedar Blvd to see how they feel about the Fraasch plan?
ReplyDeleteI heard two people on Cedar oppose the YSA plan, but I don't think I would call that "a line".
Also, what is the Fraasch plan relative to ongoing maintenance? How much will it cost each year to maintain her new grass fields and improve/maintain the existing ones? Will this plan require that those fields be taken off line for set periods of time?
Has Fraasch discussed the concept of user fees or other contributions with the sports groups since she tossed the turf plan to the curb? Will they still be willing to contribute for the status quo?
